Chic and Oh So Cheap

Author's note: Are you tired of not knowing if your outfit works for your body type? Ever wonder how to pull of a certain trend for a work environment? What about your questions if the outfit is outdated? Send me your look — I'll give you the answers to all your fashion questions. We're looking for photos of you in outfits you are not sure about, for any reason, the good and the bad! elizabeth@christiesboutique.com.

Chic and oh so cheap? Is it possible to pair these words together? The answer is YES, YES, YES!

We all want to find deals on everything — not just clothing, but the sweet satisfaction when we find a great deal on clothing. When people say cheap, you might think low quality, but we need to turn your thinking around. Think of it this way: If you bought a DVF (Diane Von Furstenberg) dress on sale for $100, would that be cheap? Yes, $100 for a DVF dress is cheap, but you sure didn’t compromise quality.

When it comes to trendy pieces, however, you should never break the bank. Trends come and go so fast, by the time you are getting a return on your investment the trend has moved on to something bigger and better. So keep your prices low. I have selected some chic trend pieces at cheap prices that will fit right into anyone’s budget.

This Steve Madden Quantum sandal is a great trendy piece for your spring/summer wardrobe, $52.90 at Nordstrom. These work great to add color to your look. Remember that you must get a pedicure to wear open-toe shoes; it looks more polished.

Having a great colorful jacket is a must this season. This Forever 21 jacket is $49 — for that price, you can get one in every color. I lean more toward pieces that are versatile. You can use this jacket as a cute dress during the day with leggings and some flats or as a jacket to accent your sexy night look.

Layering of accessories makes anyone trendy; the good thing is there are no rules. Go crazy, mix and match colors, styles and shapes. However, try your best not to overload your body with accessories.

I found these great bangles at amritasingh.com. For only $8 apiece, I suggest you grab some bright colors and some basic colors.

We all want our Jackie O moment, and with these cute sunglasses, we can have it. These are fantastic for looking chic and classy on the beach … or walking through the farmers’ market on Sunday. You can also throw on this beautiful cejon floral linen scarf on your head and you will have a fabulous look! I found the sunglasses at Aldo and the scarf at Macy’s, all for under $50.

One item I recommend every woman have is a skinny, shiny belt. They’re great for a quick flash of color and a great way to create shape to your look. You can wear it high on the waist or low on the hip. Try to pick a standout color that could accent your entire look. I found these great belts at Mimi & Red in North Park for $8 each. Great colors and fantastic fits!

A trend is just a trend, but style is forever. Don’t be afraid to take some of these trends and make them your signature style. Everyone should have a style that sets her apart. What’s yours?

Elizabeth, this trendwatch is great! Perfectly on point for summer in San Diego. I especially love the skinny belts you found. Lately, I don't feel like an outfit is complete without a belt of some kind!

I'm curious if you know of any good guides or have advice for tying scarves. I love your model's look but I fear I'd look like a pirate instead of a jet setting Jackie O. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much! Looking forward to seeing your future posts.

There are a lot of women that have problems when it comes to scarves. Here are a few tricks that will make you look chic and not like a pirate ;)

Always start with a low ponytail, if you have long hair. If you have short hair you need to bobby pin the scarf close to your head. The ponytail and bobby pins will help the scarf lay flat on your head. Get some toupee tape, it works really well, and place two pieces along your hair line on your forehead and one on each temple, close to your hair line. Trust me on this as I would not steer you in the wrong direction. It may feel funny but this is also how celebrities keep theirs in place. Take the scarf and find the pattern you want to showcase then we start the folding process.

This can be done in a few ways. If the scarf is long you can fold it in half, length wise and place the folded edge on your forehead, tie the rest at the base of your neck. Get some bobby pins and slide them in your hair starting at the base of your neck up to the top of your head. You can tie the scarf on the side or in the back. With both the tape and bobby pins, the scarf will be in position all day. If your scarf is wide just fold it in to a triangle and use the folded side on your forehead, and repeat the same steps as with a long scarf. If you fold the scarf in a triangle you will have two points at the corners of your head, simply fold those under, grab your bobby pins and pin them to your hair. After you have them secured to your head you can lay the top piece of the scarf over the secured pieces and you are set!

Any other questions feel free to ask.
