WITH THE PROMINENT Hard Rock Hotel San Diego now towering at the entrance, San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter recently obtained new bragging rights. America’s favorite city had been buzzing about the project for months, anticipating the dining, nightlife and entertainment options it would bring downtowners and lounge lovers. The brainchild of nightlife impresarios Rande and Scott Gerber, the hotel’s Moonstone Lounge caters to San Diego’s hottest night-dwellers. On the fourth floor of the massive hotel, the lounge encompasses all things great in the world of notable nightlife (which begin with numerous VIP offerings and a strikingly attractive clientele).

VIBE: A glam crowd, donning designer favorites from head to toe, flocks here to sip specialty cocktails and mingle . . . but mostly just to be seen. A medley of urban funk appeal and quiet mystery gives Moonstone a sexy vibe.

DÉCOR: Designer Michael Czysz incorporated a sexy rock ’n’ roll theme in Moonstone’s design scheme. Secluded poolside cabañas offer love seats, decks to the front and back, mini-bars, flat-screen televisions, heaters and fans; leather pub-style seating is offered just outside cabañas. Swanky fire pits available for private reservation heat up the raised deck area; ample seating surrounds. In true Hard Rock fashion, lyrics derived from classic songs by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones (among other artists) are etched into some of Moonstone’s walls and planters.

EATS & DRINKS: Bottle service ranges from $300 to $780. Short on cash? Try one of more than 25 tequila offerings, or go metropolitan with a Midnight Manhattan, a mixture of Woodford Reserve bourbon, Grand Marnier, white cranberry juice, sour mix and simple syrup.

MISCELLANEOUS: Cocktail waitresses sport skimpy bikini tops paired with low-rise white sweatpants——as if Moonstone isn’t already sexy enough. Groups with bottle service can migrate to the hotel’s downstairs bar, Sweetwater Saloon, at their leisure (and keep the same waitress). Weekends, Moonstone is buzzing with VIPs; be sure to get on the list in advance to ensure your entry.

Pretty chill to the core, but can I please see something new. Sorry, its the same old feel at every new club opening. The same atmosphere and design from 5 years ago...again. But what can you do if you want to go to the newest hip spot. Trying to hard to be hip.
