BOOKSHELF

Life Lessons
Joe Camp wrote, directed and produced all the Benji movies and television programs. He is also a passionate animal advocate and the author of three novels and a work of nonfiction. His latest, The Soul of a Horse: Life Lessons from the Herd (Harmony Books, $24.95), is a memoir of sorts, the poignant and humorous story of his and wife Kathleen’s adventures as first-time horse owners in Valley Center, and how that experience changed them.

A San Diego neuroscientist focusing on sleep research and disorders, Dr. Polly Moore developed The 90-Minute Baby Sleep Program (Workman, $9.95) for new parents. She observed sleep patterns in her new born daughter to create the N.A.P.S. plan: Note the time the baby wakes up; add 90 minutes; play, feed or pursue other activities; then, at the end of the 90-minute period; soothe the baby back to sleep. Moore says her plan follows the child’s natural sleep rhythms for better nights and naps——improving the lives of everyone in the family.
