Junior Circuit Jitters
Apologies to Padres Fans Everywhere
June 30: Let me be the first to apologize. Padres fans everywhere, I’m sorry. I had no idea what I was doing. In my June 10 post, I boldly spoke out that the Friars had possibly turned a corner after winning five straight and 10 of 14. How silly and naïve of me.
Then interleague play struck, the time of year when American and National League teams play each other in the middle of the season. San Diego finished the interleague season with a brutal record of 3-15. The ugly stretch has included losses in eight straight contests, and three-game sweeps at the hands of the Yankees, Minnesota Twins, and Seattle Mariners. Yes, those same Mariners who own a 31-50 record, good for dead last in the league. But there’s hope for Seattle, as there is a team who is only one game removed from that lowly dwelling in the cellar – you guessed it. Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2008 San Diego Padres.
So, I’m sorry. From here on out, I will be completely objective and realistic when discussing the Padres (though they’re still only 9.5 games out of the NL West lead). Oops, I did it again! Sorry.
When is Chargers training camp?
