Fetching Funds
By J. Maury Harris
A different four-legged friend takes over the Del Mar Horsepark July 7-9 to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego raise funds for children battling life-threatening medical conditions. “Wags for Wishes,” the largest dog show on the West Coast, features more than 1,500 dogs competing in agility, herding, flyball and disc, among other events. Patrons and their pooches are invited to watch the competitions, browse the booths of the pet-related vendors, attend a doggie fashion show and visit the adoption center. Admission is $5 for adults; kids get in free. The event generates enough funds to grant roughly 18 wishes to terminally ill children, according to Ben Moraga of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. That’s a pedigree you can be proud of. 9 a.m.–5 p.m. each day. 14550 El Camino Real, Del Mar, 858-707-9474;
