Sushi:

Don't let the location fool you — Banbu Sushi Bar & Grill is nothing but top-notch. James Montejano (formerly of Café Japengo in La Jolla) is chef. The outdoor patio even has a fire pit for those clear but chilly evenings. If you know James at all, you know the food is going to be incredible and always fresh. Banbu is an all-around dining experience for any sushi lover.

Italian food:

Piccolo Mondo is a no-frills Italian eatery in Pacific Beach where you can bring your own wine and not have to worry about a corkage fee. The owner is an adorable Italian man who makes everything from scratch and makes excellent and affordable pizzas and pastas.

Breakfast:

The tiny Olive Café in Mission Beach is developing a big reputation. The extensive and cheap breakfast menu offers a bit of everything (fan favorites include a feta, mushroom and spinach scramble or a breakfast quesadilla) while their outside patio seating is perfect and casual in the Sunday morning sun. Added bonus: they carry can of grape soda!
