You Gotta Have Style
Inside
“IT IS NOT THE STYLE OF CLOTHES one wears, neither the kind of automobile one drives, nor the amount of money one has in the bank, that counts. These,” George Washington Carver advised us, “mean nothing. It is simply service that measures success.”
Well, yeah. Sure. But did George ever have to dress for the opening of the new Hard Rock Hotel? Or primp for brunch on the patio at La Valencia? Or find just the right outfit for opening day at the Del Mar races?
Style may not be everything, but it’s definitely something——and San Diego Magazine, having declared this month “Fashion February,” is dripping with style. For this, you may thank our associate editor, Julia Beeson, and fashion/beauty director Heather Eubanks, who’ve dished up a stunning serving of San Diego style.
Add it up: an eight-page spread featuring San Diego style-makers, including two society fashionistas, two designers, two boutique owners, one clothing stylist and one hairstylist; a two-page interview by Lori Bergamotto with New York high-fashion icon Carolina Herrera, whose newest CH store just opened in Fashion Valley; interviews with four stylish San Diegans who talk about where they shop, what designers they love and who they turn to for their must-have item this season; and two pages of head-to-toe fashion tips on hair, makeup, skin, jewelry and other accessories from local experts.
Pay close attention, and you’ll be ready in no time to strut your own runway.
ALSO WORTH YOUR ATTENTION: San Diego may have a reputation for being the place where the wealthy and powerful shun the public spotlight, but we have a klieg light. And this month we’re shining it on the city’s power elite——that select group of go-to people who can get the job done. Whether it’s about land development, business, media, law, politics, arts or civic life, certain San Diegans just seem to have the knack for making things happen. We tell you who to call; who to call if your first call doesn’t connect; and who to avoid.
You want more? Okay, we have Marcia Manna with an update on all things artistic at Point Loma’s Liberty Station; dining critic David Nelson rubbing elbows with Bobby De Niro at the Hard Rock Hotel’s hot Nobu restaurant; Marlise Kast with an hilarious book excerpt recounting of her “date” with TV’s erstwhile millionaire bachelor Rick Rockwell; and Rowena Kelley with our lifestyle magazine-within-the-magazine, San Diego At Home.
That’s just a sampler. Curl up for a good long read.
