Uh, Let Me Correct That |

But in our one-newspaper town, we can point with pride to the standard being set by the Union-Tribune. Hardly a day goes by when the U-T isn’t owning up to some boo-boo or other. Hear, hear, I say. Three cheers for their sense of responsibility and fair play.
Let’s hope they have a sense of humor, too. Because the following representative sample of corrections and clarifications never actually appeared in the newspaper. Not yet, anyway.
Correction
David Blutarski of Ramona was incorrectly identified as the late Raymond Burr in a photograph that showed him stuffing his face with jumbo shrimp. We forgot Burr was dead. But, hey, they both look like offensive linemen. The San Diego Union-Tribune regrets the error.
Correction
Due to incorrect information supplied by a survivor, the winner of the U.S. Civil War was incorrectly named in a feature story. The North won the war.
Clarification
A design feature story stated that the walls of the Richington mansion foyer in La Jolla are eggshell-colored. The walls are ecrue.
Correction
A previous Correction noting the color of the walls in the Richington mansion foyer should have included the correct spelling of the color ecru.
Correction
Intense guilt felt by a typesetter over a previous day’s typo led to a slew of sympathy misspellings yesterday. Mayor Susan Golding’s name was spelled wrong in Meil Norgan’s column. Unfortunately, Norgan’s byline was also misspelled, as were NTC and SANDAG. The Union-Tribune is perplexed by these errors. Meil’s pissed, too.
Correction
Since Air Force One was late—and it was after 5 p.m.—we skipped the arrival of President Clinton at North Island. Hence, our story omitted several details about his trip. He’s a lying scumbag, anyway. The San Diego Union-Tribune regrets he’s a lying scumbag.
Correction
A book review in Sunday’s Books section contained a negative review of Thomas Wolfe’s A Man in Full. The freelance reviewer has been advised that any author whose publishing company purchases four-color, full-page ads cannot possibly write a bad book.
Clarification
The San Diego Union-Tribune does not identify by name youths involved
in crime stories. That is why yesterday’s story on a ring of junior high Ponzi schemers did not include reference to Carl Youngman or Brianna Youthey.
Correction
Please disregard a Clarafication in yesterday’s edition that included the names of two youths involved in a Ponzi scheme.
Correction
In a Correction of a Clarification that ran in yesterday’s edition, the word “Clarification” was misspelled. The San Diego Union-Tribune is beginning to regret its policy to run Corrections and clarifications in the first place.
