Giving and Giving Back
From the Publisher
HERE AT SAN DIEGO MAGAZINE, our hearts go out to the San Diegans who have lost their homes, neighborhoods and belongings in the terrible fire storm of 2007. And we mourn with the blessedly few who lost loved ones. We hope you and your families are now safe, and we send warm wishes for a smooth recovery. The transition will be difficult, but we feel sure you’ll find strength in the support of our local community.
As our way of contributing to the rebuilding efforts of the lost neighborhoods, San Diego Magazine is donating 5 percent of all local advertising sales, through the January issue, to the fire victims through the Salvation Army. Readers can donate to the Salvation Army at our Web site, sandiegomagazine.com, or sandiego.salvationarmy.org.
In a time of tragedy and natural disaster, it was remarkable to see how our county and our citizens came together. Volunteers were plentiful at local evacuation centers. Cars and trucks full of food and other donations seemed to create endless streams at shelters such as Qualcomm Stadium and the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Praise came on a national level for the people at these sites who treated evacuees with incredible care and attention. We offer our sincere appreciation to those who ran these centers——they recognized the needs of our community and responded without hesitation. And we add our personal thanks and praise for the hundreds of heroic men and women——from inside and outside San Diego——who risked their own lives to protect ours.
San Diego Magazine continues to hold you in our thoughts and prayers as we look toward the future and rebuilding.
