Holiday Heights

Holiday Heights

Tchaikovsky never conceived of his famous Nutcrackerballet as a yuletide treat, but that is exactly what it’s become. As happens every holiday season, two major local dance companies are vying for your sugarplum viewing. Which Nutcrackeris best? Depends on which one your kid is in. The major choices, though, are the offerings of the City Ballet of San Diego (Dec. 10, 11 & 12, Spreckels Theater, 858-272- 8663; cityballet.com). The California Ballet wages fierce competition (Dec. 4 & 5 at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts; Dec. 18, 19, 21 & 22 at the Civic Theatre, 858-560-6741; californiaballet.org).
