The Arc of San Diego
The phrase "living with disabilities" takes on a positive connotation thanks to the Arc of San Diego, a nonprofit organization that has been providing services for San Diegans with disabilities since 1951.
Working toward its mission and vision of a better world for disabled San Diegans, the Arc of San Diego "empowers persons with disabilities, and their families, by working in partnership to create opportunities to achieve their individual goals within the community."
The largest and most comprehensive service provider for people with disabilities in San Diego County, the Arc of San Diego fulfills this mission through its many programs and activities, including: a parent/infant program, which provides assistance for children from birth to 3 years old with development delays or risks for delay; day programs to assist adults with physical and cognitive difficulties with essential life skills; vocational training and job placement; and respite services that provide short-term relief at any hour of the day, 365 days of the year for caregivers of people with disabilities.
In order to succeed in its efforts to serve more than 2,500 people in San Diego County, the Arc of San Diego relies on volunteers in many capacities, from assisting with fund-raising and special events to serving as a board member.
"The most rewarding thing about working with The Arc of San Diego is to see the numerous success stories that are a direct result of the programs," said Courtney Fadjo, communications coordinator.
This month, golf lovers can get in on the game and give back to the Arc of San Diego at the same time, thanks to a partnership with The Century Club's Chip in for Charity program that offers discounted tickets to the Buick Invitational, February 2-8 at Torrey Pines Golf Course. Patrons can purchase tickets at a discounted rate of $15 per day pass and $90 per season pass, which includes six daily tickets. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit children and adults with disabilities at The Arc of San Diego.
