Dog Run
If you get that take-me-outnow- please puppy look at 1 a.m. and you are up for a stroll on the beach, head for Ocean Beach Dog Park, better known as Dog Beach (West Point Loma Boulevard at Voltaire Street, 619-235-1169; sandiego.gov/ lifeguards/beaches/ob.shtml). The park is leash-free at all hours. There are nearby washrooms and a fountain too. Parking is available in the public lot at the end of Voltaire Street.

Place to Pamper a Pomeranian
Michael Dougherty has judged ca - nines at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club show. At his posh new Windsong Resort for Pets (1412 Windsong Lane, Escondido, 760- 233-5060; windsongpets.com), every dog (or cat or bunny) is treated like Best in Show. Spacious, themed dog suites include webcams, so protective pet owners can check on their pooches. Grounds include a play pool and plenty of turf for Rover to tread.

Dog-Friendly Dining
Baja-style O’Bistro (4934 Voltaire Street, Ocean Beach, 619-223- 2202; obistrocafe.com) welcomes all leashed dogs and their owners. Canines can wolf down a hamburger patty and sniff for any scraps that fall to the patio floor. It’s just blocks from Ocean Beach Dog Park.

Place for Pet-Friendly Ice Cream
The mantra of doggies on a hot day: “I bark, you bark, we all bark for Daily Scoop in South Park.” Listen up and buy your pooch peanut butter–flavored ice cream, made especially for canines. Humans love Daily Scoop (3004 Juniper Street, 619-624- 0920) for its supply of Niederfrank’s ice cream, in exotic flavors that include chocolate Mexicano and macadamia nut toffee.

Pet Products
Pampered pets will find a perfect fit with the couture line of carriers at Tag for Dogs and Cats (142 University Avenue, Suite D, Hillcrest; 619-497-0180; shop-tag.com) and its Del Mar companion shop, Buddy’s Pet Bowtique (2670 Via de la Valle, Suite A220, 858-720-0484; buddysbowtique.com). There’s also a wide selection of catnip and chew toys, faux mink blankets, crystal-studded and spiked collars and stainless steel feeders in the shape of everything from a marble column to the queen’s crown.

Place to Purchase a Cat Condo
Cat furniture doesn’t have to be covered in shag or Berber carpeting and look like, well, cat furniture. Modern Cat Designs (3809 Ocean Ranch Boulevard, Suite 110, Oceanside, 877-977-8733; moderncatdesigns.com) creates really cool kitty condos in two styles that resemble modern sculpture. Foam-padded panels in circular steel frames are covered with a durable, cross-woven fabric in beige and chocolate.
