THE CASUAL-CHIC beach town of Cardiff-by-the-Sea is home to L.A. Fairchild Denim Bar, a concept boutique stocked with some of the trendiest threads this side of Los Angeles. Here, fashion blends with function, and the result is a cool and clever denim warehouse equally appealing to women and men. In addition to the 30-plus denim brands filling the shelves, including AG, Hudson, True Religion and Earnest Sewn, L.A. Fairchild Denim Bar also offers up shoes from Sam Edelman and Dolce Vita and lines from Ted Baker and Original Penguin.
Think you’ll have trouble convincing the man in your life to come along for the ride? Think again. The saloon-inspired store also sports a kegerator, dartboard, pool table, Sony PlayStation and plasma TV (Padres game, anyone?).
Of all the trendy San Diego neighborhoods to house this one-of-a-kind shop, why Cardiff? Owner Laura Fairchild says, “There were no fashion-forward stores like this in Cardiff, and I really thought there was a need. The residents were definitely ready, and the timing was just right.” The style stars were aligned, indeed, as evidenced by the other Fairchild-owned shop and neighbor to the Denim Bar——the wildly successful L.A. Fairchild Boutique.
We asked Fairchild what’s on her fall fashion radar. “It’s all about the trouser jean for women——something wide-legged and flared,” she says. For the really fashion daring, Fairchild likes high-waisted sailor jeans with intricate pocket detailing. Stay tuned for L.A. Fairchild’s huge end-of-season sale (featuring fashions from both stores) at the end of August.
