It's a Hit

It's a Hit

This month, San Diego At Homecelebrates indoor/outdoor living at the Rancho Santa Fe home of a talented twosome: Major League Baseball player Steve Finley and his wife, designer Amy Finley. It’s a contemporary 12,500-square-foot masterpiece called Málaga, de- signed by architect Larry Case.

While raising five children, both Finleys keep busy. Amy has slowly built her business, Finley Design. Steve has carved a solid career spanning 18 sea- sons in the outfield, winning five Gold Gloves. As a San Diego Padre, he played in the 1998 World Series. Steve returned to Petco Park in April with the Colorado Rockies on opening day, where he received a resounding wel- come from local fans. Recently Amy launched a custom line of linens, fur- niture and accessories influenced by her travels to Europe, which she showcases at Málaga. We’re also ex- cited to hear of her plans to create a showroom/design center for her line by next year.

For entertaining outdoors, chef Larry Lewis of the San Diego Culinary Institute—a local treasure that rivals its New York and San Francisco coun- terparts—invites you to taste the fla- vors of summer with an elegant dinner menu. Lewis, a graduate of the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, uses fresh local fish and produce to create easy (and gor- geous) recipes aimed at the weekend chef.

Good design always starts with great ideas. We also bring you the latest in design news for spectacular pools and pretty, storage-savvy powder rooms.
