Residences at The Grand Del Mar offer exquisite Italian-inspired interiors

When celebrities, pro athletes and other high-rollers want a home away from home, they can find it at The Grand Del Mar, North County’s newest luxury resort, featuring first-rate restaurants and a Tom Fazio-designed golf course. An exclusive residential enclave within resort grounds allows vacation-seekers to do more than stay the night — they can purchase one-tenth ownership of one of The Villas, allowing them five vacation weeks each year, plus access to resort amenities that include the golf club, four swimming pools, two outdoor tennis courts, a fitness center, a 21,000-square-foot spa and six dining venues, including the acclaimed signature restaurant, Addison.

The 4,500- and 5,000-square-foot residences feature the same striking Mediterranean exteriors as the resort, and each embraces indoor-outdoor living and frames sweeping views of the golf course. The Villas’ two-story interiors were done by Warren Sheets Design, who appointed each with elaborate furnishings, fine finishes and exquisite accessories. In the great room alone, you’ll find:

• European-style furnishings replicated from those found in ancient villas throughout the Marche region of central Italy.

• Plush fabrics and rugs — damask chenilles, tapestries and fine silks — custom designed for the villas, many imported from Western Europe.

• Draperies sewn from a “dragged” velvet fabric, with classical Roman patterns hand-stenciled using a bronze-patina paint.

• Coffered ceilings featuring finely finished wood beams, hand-painted with stencils that reflect the artistic detailing found throughout Italy.

• Hand-troweled, custom-colored Venetian plaster walls.

• Doorways with limestone-clad arches carved in Verona, Italy.

• Handcrafted wormy chestnut, mahogany and African rosewood hardwood floors, in a parquet design.

• Carved limestone fireplace fronts with custom decorative iron screens detailed with burnished and antique 23-karat gold leaf.

• Retractable, floor-to-ceiling windows creating a seamless transition to the outdoors.
