San Diego At Home goes Bimonthly |

Welcome to the 2007 debut of our design and lifestyle magazine-within-the-magazine. This year, the editors of San Diego at Home are excited to announce new bimonthly coverage of marvelous homes, interior design and outdoor living. We’ll also report on worthy stores, sources and products, from furnishings to faucets.
What’s become clear as we’ve expanded our coverage is that San Diego is a first-class design community in its own right. Not only do we have a rich architectural history—traditional Spanish Revival, Craftsman style, Art Deco and venerable midcentury Modernism—but beautiful San Diego also attracts enviable talent: the architects, designers, landscapers and tradespeople who create our homes.
SoCal invented the modern beach house. In “Home as Art,” senior editor Thomas Shess marvels at a 22,000-square-foot masterpiece by architect Guy Dreier on the highest buildable coastal land south of Santa Barbara.
In contrast, we feature the East County home of Jan and Sherry Beaton. For years, this couple lived in a trailer on their Jamul property while their house was being built. Their home evolved over time with patience, hard work and local talent.
Remaking downtown, architects such as Martinez + Cutri are building edgy modern developments aimed at hip urban dwellers. In Designer Spotlight, we check out the work of Michael Crosby, who designed the interiors of M2i loft apartments for two young, single women.
Our design districts, Miramar Road and Morena Boulevard among them, continue to expand. This month we visit another hot spot, Grand Avenue, just a few blocks from the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.
To present these stories and the people behind them is an honor—and a lot of fun. If you have a home or lifestyle business you’d like to see in our magazine, let us hear from you.
