A Success Story
Staying Fit with Jorge Cruise
THE RESPONSE to our Belly Fat Cure challenge has been tremendous; hundreds of San Diego Magazine readers have lost dangerous belly fat (and continue to do so). One of my clients, Karen Diega Sutton, saw some powerful results. Before starting the challenge, Karen’s self-esteem was so low she stayed in most nights, eating, instead of going out to meet her friends. She couldn’t look at photos of herself without looking away and feeling disgusted. Despite being a busy mom and taking classes, she couldn’t escape the fact that she was back to her pregnancy weight——without being pregnant. “I really can’t think anything positive about myself right now,” she said before starting The Belly Fat Cure™.
In just one week on the plan, Karen lost an unprecedented 13 pounds and gained a new confidence. “I wasn’t even really trying that hard, and I lost that much weight——I’m amazed,” she says. “The best thing is, not only did I lose 13 pounds and 2 inches my first week, I got to eat things I never thought I could eat——chocolate, Doritos and ice cream. Trust me——you can do it; it’s really easy.”
I want to challenge you to lose up to 9 pounds of belly fat in the next two weeks, without dieting or exercise. I want to give you the tools to lose your first 9 pounds right now. The first step: motivation.
Waist circumference is now the most essential measure. Generally speaking, women should have a waist circumference of 32.5 inches or less; men should have a waist circumference of 37 inches or less. To determine the exact measurement for your height, divide your height in inches by two (for instance, if you’re 5-foot-4, that’s 64 inches, so your waist circumference should be 32 inches at most). Remember, small changes in your waist circumference can make a big difference: Every 2 extra inches you carry around your waist has been confirmed to lower life span by up to 17 percent (see The New England Journal of Medicine, November 13, 2008).
So how do you lose belly fat? It all comes down to knowing how to eat the correct amount of sugar and carbs——what I call the S/C Value™. Without this ratio, you will fail to produce the hormone leptin, and you will store belly fat. Your daily S/C Value should be 15/6 (no more than 15 grams of sugar and six servings of carbs). That magic number ensures the success of the Belly Fat Cure.
