Pageant of the Masters: Paintings Come Alive

Date: 2017-07-07 | For more show dates, click here.

See a work of art come to life at the Pageant of the Masters. This one-of-a-kind production, an Orange County tradition, uses real people to recreate classical and contemporary paintings down to the finest detail. As you take in the visual marvel, a narrator guides you through the story behind each work while a live orchestra sets the tone. This year's presentation, The Grand Tour, recreates the experience of a time when there were virtually no public museums and people would go on artistic pilgrimages, traveling around Europe to see great works of art. Highlighting masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Tiepolo, Longhi, Watteau, Reynolds and Romney, as well as American artists like John Singer Sargent, The Grand Tour will take you on a whirlwind journey from Pompeii to a celebration of Carnival in Venice to the European tour of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show to Paris in the Jazz Age.

Into the Woods: Sondheim's Musical Fairy-Tale Mashup Performed by Youth Casts

Date: 2017-05-27 | For more show dates, click here.

What happens after "happily ever after?" Stephen Sondheim's Into The Woods answers that question, skillfully interweaving several classic fairy tales into one epic story that goes beyond the happy endings to show what happens when a fairy-tale world gets real. This modern twist on the Brothers Grimm brings together Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (of beanstalk fame), a Baker, his Wife and, of course, the Witch. The beloved storybook characters take on startling complexity as they discover that wishes come with a price. Witches, wolves, giants and mysterious strangers force the heroes to face the music and their future in a world where everything doesn't always end happily. Spring Valley's ENCORE! Theatre's new production is a humorous and heartfelt chase through the woods, featuring two separate youth casts and such unforgettable songs as "No One Is Alone," "Children Will Listen" and "Giants in the Sky."

2Cellos: Rockin' Cello Duo Featured on Ellen & Glee

Date: | For more show dates, click here.

Don't expect a sedate classical recital from 2Cellos: Their concerts usually end with bows frayed, the duo exhausted and the audience on its feet screaming for more. One of the greatest YouTube sensations ever, the duo's raucous rendition of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" blew the minds of more than 10 million people, including Elton John (who invited them to join his band) and Ellen DeGeneres (who invited them onto her show). Since then, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, two of the world's finest classical cellists, have performed massively popular interpretations of works by Rihanna, Nirvana, Coldplay and Nine Inch Nails. Indeed, their recent cover of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" clocked just under 50 million YouTube hits. Their latest album, Score, contains a Game of Thrones medley, the theme from The Godfather and many more delights. Now, these masters of Ba-rock (baroque + rock) come to the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre in San Diego as part of The Score World Tour.

Marsha Ambrosius knows a little something about writing great songs. She wrote "Butterflies" for none other than Michael Jackson and has worked musical magic with Alicia Keys, Kanye West and Nas. But the two-time Grammy nominee's prowess extends beyond the studio. Her velvet voice seduces listeners just as powerfully now as it did back in 2002 when she burst on the scene as one half of R&B and hip-hop duo Floetry, performing hits like "Say Yes" and "Getting Late." Since then, her solo single "Far Away" and 2011 album Late Nights & Early Mornings have helped her earn a devoted fan base and praise from her musical idols Stevie Wonder and the late, great Prince. On this tour, Ambrosius is joined by R&B and neosoul artist Eric Benét, whose latest studio album debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard charts, and features appearances by Arturo Sandoval and MC Lyte.
