Wild Goose Dreams, a dark comedy about a North Korean defector and a lonely South Korean father who find romance online, premieres at La Jolla Playhouse (through 10/1).

September 7:

Based on the namesake 1990s romantic comedy, Benny & Joon debuts at The Old Globe (through 10/22).

September 8:

Brace yourself for a fright night of horror flicks during the three-day Horrible Imaginings Film Festival at the Museum of Photographic Arts.

September 9:

Show your community support during the annual South Bay Pride Art & Music Festival at Chula Vista’s Bayside Park.

San Diego Blues Festival

Boogie through the San Diego Blues Festival at Embarcadero Marina Park North.

Shout “Opa!” for the Cardiff Greek Festival at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.

September 13:

From Broadway superstar Lin-Manuel Miranda, the musical In the Heights tells a tale of New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood, at Moonlight Amphitheatre (through 9/30).

September 14:

Sample food and drinks from more than 40 eateries at the Taste of Downtown.

Putt for charity during the two-day Scripps Clinic Invitational Golf Tournament and Dinner for its 49th annual fundraiser in La Jolla.

September 15:

Enjoy 70 concerts, 12 comedy shows, art exhibits, pampering, food, and drinks during the three-day KAABOO Del Mar music festival at Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Be awed by the world’s fastest boats as they race in Mission Bay for San Diego Bayfair (through 9/17).

September 16:

Talk (and dress) like a pirate for the third annual Landlubbers Day with crafts, contests, entertainment, and more at Seaport Village.

Bring the whole family to the weekend Oceanside Harbor Days for arts and crafts, food, and outdoor fun along the coast.

September 17:

Admire work from Latin American artists responding to the failure of modernization after World War II in Memories of Underdevelopment at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego Downtown (through January 2018).

The Little Mermaid

September 19:

Travel under the sea with Ariel and friends in the Broadway show The Little Mermaid at San Diego Civic Theatre (through 9/24).

September 22:

Savor the culinary creations of more than 25 local “cheftestants” during Chef Throwdown at Hotel del Coronado, including a food competition, silent auction, seated dinner, and after-party, benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Say cheers for the 23rd annual San Diego Festival of Beer, featuring nearly 60 breweries and live music on Broadway Pier.

Look to the skies during the three-day MCAS Miramar Air Show for flight demonstrations from the Army’s Golden Knights and the Navy’s Blue Angels and Leap Frogs, along with many others.

September 23:

Feel good vibrations as The Beach Boys take the stage at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay.

The third annual 40 North Dance Film Festival showcases choreography, sound, and expert editing in cinema at various venues (through 9/30).

September 24:

Dine at new eateries or visit old favorites without breaking the bank during San Diego Restaurant Week, when more than 180 restaurants offer discounted prix fixe dinner and lunch menus (through 10/1).

September 28:

View juried contemporary work from more than 500 artists at the ninth annual, four-day Art San Diego show at its new home, Del Mar Fairgrounds.

September 30:

Jam out at the free weekend Adams Avenue Street Fair, featuring more than 90 musical acts, arts and crafts, beer, food vendors, and carnival rides.

The Old Globe premieres The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey, which explores one detective’s quest to find a missing teenager (through 10/29).

Shop for new home decor while snacking and sipping at the free weekend Art & Craft Show Old Town San Diego.

Electronic dance music takes over Waterfront Park for the weekend with more than 40 performances during CRSSD Festival.
