A building boom is underway at the vibrant Downtown San Diego waterfront. The addition of new hotels, shops, restaurants, and more is spurring its transformation. Located at the emerging gateway to the city from the waterfront sits luxury high-rise Pacific Gate by Bosa.

Developer Nat Bosa sought to elevate San Diego on the international stage. Known as Super Prime locations, such cities are characterized by a thriving business sector, beauty, culture, iconic architecture, and design supporting a lifestyle that is unique, rarefied, luxurious, and cosmopolitan.

“My enthusiasm for San Diego and its potential to be a true world-class city keeps getting stronger since I first started acquiring land nearly 20 years ago,” Bosa said. “I want to give San Diego some of the best buildings on the West Coast and I intend to do that.”

Pacific Gate is Downtown San Diego’s first Super Prime residential building. Its two glimmering, oval-shaped towers mirror the sea’s fluidity in their curving 41-story rise. Pacific Gate’s unique formation lends a different view from each of its 215 residences. This bold statement into downtown’s future is the vision of architects Kohn Pedersen Fox.

“We’re very interested in the interaction, the visual and functional interaction, of what happens inside and on the building’s surface with the city around it,” KPF President Jamie Von Klemperer said.

Common areas and residences evoke a coastal vibe. Two- and three-bedroom homes range from 1,276 to 2,608 square feet. Interior designers Hirsch Bedner Associates used open layouts for a modern feel, taking advantage of the building’s rounded corners. At the heart of each home is a kitchen with HBA custom-designed cabinets, hardware, quartz countertops, and state-of-the-art appliances from Wolf, Sub-Zero, and Miele. Spacious bathrooms feature innovative technology including mirrors fitted with touchscreens and televisions, and climate and lighting controlled from a smartphone or tablet.

“Drawing the outside world in was our goal – to take inspiration from the surrounding natural landscape to create spaces that are warm yet sleek, contemporary, and timeless in design,” HBA Design Partner Meghann Day said.

Included in Pacific Gate’s living experience are amenities and services usually reserved for the most exclusive hotels. Residents have access to a private boat share program, luxury car fleet, chef concierge services, and 24-hour attended lobby and porter services. Also available are a screening room, business center, pool and spa complete with cabanas, fitness center with a sauna room, and an outdoor pet retreat. Pacific Gate is a work of art. With the addition of a public sculpture in the pedestrian plaza by artist Jaume Plensa, the building helps elevate downtown’s prestige in the fine art world onto the international stage.

“We are evolving luxury condominium living in Downtown through the best and most thoughtful services and amenities that mean the most to our owners,” Bosa said.
