Restaurant débuts, menu changes, and trend tracking

Solace & the Moonlight Lounge is now open in Encinitas, with the chef/owner, Matt Gordon, now splitting his time between the new, seafood-focused spot and his popular Urban Solace restaurant in North Park.

Burger Lounge’s sixth location (voted Best Burger in San Diego in our 2011 reader poll) is now open in the Gaslamp Quarter.

A new executive chef, Juan Carlos Colón (call him JC), recently took over the kitchen at Kensington Grill, after Hanis Cavin’s departure.
SOL Markets, a new market, promising a wide stock of local produce, products, beers, and wines, announced its first location will soon be open in Liberty Station in the old firehouse building, very near to Stone Brewing Co.’s planned expansion.

News of a slew of closings of small eateries swept the uptown food blogs recently, with many reporting that Yakitori Yakyudori (Hillcrest), North Park Fish Market, and the South Park location of El Camino had all shuttered this summer.
