The "Scorpion Chair" from Tord Boontje

We are loving this Tord Boontje Shadowy Chair, dubbed the “Scorpion Chair” by the staff at Hotel La Jolla. The seat is a focal point at the hotel’s new poolside bar and lounge, Hiatus. L.A.-based interior designer Gulla Jonsdottir handpicked the piece for the space. She says its robust shape evokes beach furniture from the 1920s. But it’s those curious ruffles that earned the chair its nickname—the way the backrest curves at the top and turns into a parasol. Now that’s the most stylish scorpion we’ve ever seen, and the only one we’d ever be comfortable sunbathing next to!
