The Thanksgiving Grand Buffet and post-meal Turkey Trot kick off the season. Chef Chad Minton offers regular Thursday night cooking classes and sources food from the hotel’s three-acre garden.

RItz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay

Half Moon Bay

Need a break from all the holiday shopping madness? Half Moon Bay is a quaint seaside town about 30 minutes south of SFO airport. Stay: The Ritz-Carlton is perched among the rolling hills of two golf courses. Request a room with a fire pit, and bring the fixings for s’mores, or watch the sunset from Gazebo Lawn, overlooking the dramatic seascape and 18th green of the Old Course. When the temp turns NorCal-brisk, ask the staff for a fleece blanket, and flag down the man with the hot chocolate cart. Play: At Half Moon Bay Golf Links, the newer Ocean Course offers a true links golf experience, with wide-open fairways. Every hole boasts a view of the water. The tree-lined Old Course, designed by Arnold Palmer, finishes with one of the most beautiful signature holes we’ve ever seen. Ever. Eat: Before the back nine, grab lunch at Mullins Bar & Grill. For dinner, try Navio, which has a new chef and nice selection of wines made in nearby Santa Cruz. Spa: Four words: Vichy shower, Ritz-Carlton.
