Make your Vacation a Staycation

Hey, San Diego! Planning a summer vacation? Have you considered... San Diego? When was the last time you went to Balboa Park, or kayaked among the friendly La Jolla leopard sharks? This is your chance to catch up on the San Diego–centric activities and attractions—and avoid the airport hassle. Here are some ideas to help you plan the perfect staycation and see your city in a new light.

Treat Yourself

Just across the bridge lies the idyllic coastal burg Coronado. A night or two at the iconic Hotel del Coronado, Curio Collection by Hilton is sure to rejuvenate your San Diego spirit. Indulge in some local eats before heading out to see what this tiny town has to offer. Leroy’s is great for farm-to-table fare before souvenir shopping along Orange Avenue. Stop by Coronado Brewing Co. for an authentic San Diego–style IPA. Swing back across the bridge to show your love for your home team at a Padres game, check out the historic USS Midway, or take a fun harbor cruise. Bonus: Book a California road trip package through travel.hilton.com for exclusive discounts on Padres tickets, Flagship Cruises and other local attractions.

Get Out of Town

Make a stop in La Jolla to finally kayak through the sea caves or look for the fabled green flash while watching the breathtaking San Diego sunset at Scripps Pier. Check out sea life from a distance at the Children’s Pool or visit Birch Aquarium at Scripps for an up-close look at the underwater world. Shop ‘til you drop in Downtown La Jolla Village then cozy up for a stay at the chic Hotel La Jolla. Take a load off in a plush, modern guest room and relax on your private furnished balcony. While you’re there, don’t pass up the perfect Pacific view while you dine on sophisticated coastal California cuisine at Cusp.

Cruise up the coast to laid-back Carlsbad Beach—the sunshine and salty sea breeze will do you good. Check in to the Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach, a Hilton Resort for a healthy dose of coastal cool. Your North County adventure is the perfect opportunity to stop and smell the flowers at the San Diego Botanic Garden. North County has its fair share of culture, too. Peruse paintings at the Oceanside Museum of Art or learn more about one of SoCal’s most popular sports at the California Surf Museum. Carlsbad Village is home to lots of great dining spots; try wood-fired cuisine at the hip Campfire or grab a slice at Pizza Port, known as much for its pints as its pies.

A Family Affair

You can’t do San Diego right without visiting beautiful Balboa Park. It’s filled with fun activities you and your little ones are sure to love. Stroll through the San Diego Zoo and the Spanish Village, and test your skills at the Escape Room at the Natural History Museum. Stop by Panama 66 for a bite. Kids can burn off some extra energy running around the outdoor fenced-in sculpture garden. Settle in for the night at Homewood Suites by Hilton San Diego Hotel Circle/SeaWorld Area. Trust us, your family will appreciate the extra space (and the pool). Hotel Circle is just a hop, skip, and a jump from Belmont Park. What’s better after a ride on the Giant Dipper than a sweet treat? Stop by Pacific Knots for some trendy rolled ice cream.
