Where:
Park in the lot at 8833 Harmony Grove Road in Escondido and follow the Way Up Trail. It’s a steep climb, with sweeping views of open space and the reservoir from the top. Either turn around or continue on the Lake Hodges Overlook Trail for more scenery.
Why We Love It:
This well-maintained trail is great for kids, with informative signs along the path. The first bit is often crowded, but if you continue on the trails along the reservoir you’ll likely get a solitary hike.
Where to Refuel Afterward:
The original Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido, with its pretty grounds, curated menu, and expansive tap list, opens for brunch at 11 a.m. (1999 Citracado Parkway).
