Weekly Staff Picks: From Sushi to the Circus

We've been all around the city to bring you this week's picks. Check out a North County bakery, Pacific Beach brunch, and the best downtown parking spot!

Sushi

Solana Beach’s Station Sushi is “radicalness,” according to our staffer. The local standby is located (as the name suggests) near the train station, and across the highway from the always-cool Cedros Avenue. Station has another location in Bird Rock.

Brunch

Gringo’s Cantina’s champagne brunch takes place every Sunday. For $19.95 it’s all-you-can-eat, and the champagne flows freely from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (two-hour time limit)
4474 Mission Boulevard, Pacific Beach

Parking

Park-It-on-Market is the best, most convenient parking in downtown San Diego. In the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, this parking garage features affordable hourly and overnight parking, plenty of open spaces, and a super friendly staff.  Note, though, that Part-It-on-Market only accepts cash.

Bakery

Local North County favorite VG Donuts & Bakery is a great place to get special-occasion cakes at good prices. Our staff had chocolate cake for a staffmember’s birthday, which was delicious!

Circus

Acrobats, clowns and contortionists, oh, my! Fern Street Circus, San Diego’s homegrown circus, turns 20 and turns cartwheels, with a celebration focused on the title theme, Hope. May 21-30: Fri. at 8, Sat. at 1, 4 & 8, Sun. at 1 & 4.
Park Boulevard at Presidents Way, Balboa Park
