May 5, 2007Last year my son Jared agreed to take the marathon baton from me to help raise money to cure Huntington’s disease, the disease that has stricken his mother Ramona and threatens all children with a parent with HD. So on Sunday, June 3, he will be Running to Cure HD in the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. I’m tagging along, but this is Jared’s undertaking.
I couldn’t be more proud of him for the sacrifice he’s making to run for his mom and raise money and awareness to end this horrible and fatal brain disorder.
Ramona was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease just seven years ago. In that short time, the disease has progressed to the point that she now lives in a skilled nursing home equipped to help her and others with HD. Our family is just one of more than 150,000 in the U.S. whose lives have been turned upside-down by this disease, and your support means the world to us.
Last year you contributed nearly $26,000 in pledges, and a national matching fund for research matched your efforts two-for-one, sending more than $75,000 directly to projects focused on finding the cure. Overall you have contributed $166,000 in six years through Running to Cure HD, sending more than $330,000 to support important research projects. THANK YOU!
