Step aside, bright blues and pinks—the newest cocktails are going black thanks to activated charcoal, a flavorless addition that imparts a noir vibe. Here are four local libations and their unique recipes.

1. Charred Cactus

Bartenders at Campfire infuse tequila with activated charcoal before adding fresh lime juice, peach puree, and a syrup made of charred nopales.

2. Dead Space

The cocktail, featured this month at Kindred’s Thursday tiki nights, touts activated charcoal, falernum syrup, Batavia arrack, Matusalem rum, and absinthe, followed by pineapple and lime.

3. The Master (Not) Cleanse

Kettner Exchange’s boozy take on the notorious detox drink features activated charcoal plus tequila, honey, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and a pink Himalayan sea salt rim.

4. Black Magic Mimosa
