Local Company Makes Watches from Whiskey Barrels

By Kimberly Cunningham

If bourbon is a gentleman’s drink, then consider this the gentleman’s watch. Crafted with wood reclaimed from whiskey barrels, the new timepiece is part of a partnership between Jim Beam and Original Grain.

The East Village–based company, founded by brothers Ryan and Andrew Beltran, launched following the third most successful fashion campaign in Kickstarter history. Three years later, their wood watches have caught the attention of tastemakers like GQ and Forbes. They also recently announced their Trees for the Future initiative via trees.org, to plant 10 trees for every watch sold. The Jim Beam watch, set to debut this month, retails for $499. We think it’s the perfect gift for Dad—just in “time” for Father’s Day.
