The total body-sculpting workout, barre3

After her four-season career as a Charger Girl, Lauren O’Bryon (above right) discovered barre3 as a way to stay in shape post-cheerleading. Now the studio manager, O’Bryon helped bring the Portland-based barre3 to San Diego. The total body-sculpting workout consists of movements like squatting while balancing on the balls of your feet and repeatedly moving “up an inch, down an inch.” At barre3, the thinking goes, “If your muscle is shaking, your body is changing.” It’s yoga minus the spirituality, Pilates without the cumbersome machines, and a dash of ballet sans stylized choreography. “The ‘three’ in our name is a symbol of balance—in body and in life—and especially at work.” 8895 Towne Centre Drive, UTC area
