Look closely at the floorboards on the cozy patio at Hillcrest’s EmpireHouse eatery, and you’ll see a sign of owners Larry Malone and Susie Baggs’ commitment to the neighborhood. “The curse removed,” reads a hand-painted slat, referring to the three other restaurants that have opened and closed in the same space in the past year and a half. On first bite, we were hooked on the trio of “casters” (sliders seared in a cast-iron pan) for just $10.
