HOT HAUTE: Designer Zac Posen flew in from New York for an exclusive reception and runway show featuring designs from his fall 2007 line at Lee and Stuart Posnock’s La Jolla home. Underwritten by Nordstrom, the event  was a fund-raiser for Voices for Children. Sarah Dolgen Ghanem was event chair.
 
PLAYING WITH DOLLS: Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Resnick and bandmates performed a private benefit concert in the Schubach Aviation  premier Jet hanger at Carlsbad’s McClellan-Palomar Airport. The annual  Sounds of Hope event raised more than $650,000 for the Rady Children’s  Hospital & Health Center asthma and immunology department. KUSI’s Sandra Maas emceed; Marilyn Nolen and Judy Rowles chaired. 
NATURE’S PALETTE: The San Diego Museum of Art presented an  after-hours Floral Fête to celebrate this year’s Art Alive event, in which artful floral and plant arrangements are installed amid the museum’s collection.  Jacki and Ken Widder were honorary chairs; Audrey Geisel was a major underwriter. Other supporters included June and Neil Ash, Pam and Jerry  Cesak, Valerie and Harry Cooper, Sharon and Joel Labovitz, JoBobbie MacConnell and Paul Mosher. 
VINTAGE VANTAGE: The Museum of Photographic Arts hosted Vintage Weekend 2007: Fine Food, Wine and Art, a series of fund-raising events including the Grand Tasting and Wine Auction. Added to this year’s festivities was the Cult Wine Dinner at Pamplemousse Grille, at which rare California cult wines were paired with a decadent three-course meal prepared by  executive chef Jeffrey Strauss. Wanda Garner chaired. 
SEEING GREEN: Patrons of Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital’s fifth annual Renaissance Ball were transported to the Italian gardens of “Tivoli.” Held at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine, the black-tie event  honored Burl Mackenzie for her 50 years of support. Proceeds will fund  construction of a private waiting room in the Breast Care Center. 
LIFE’S A BREES: Former Chargers and current Saints quarterback Drew Brees and wife, Britanny, hosted the Professional Open golf tournament featuring NFL players and benefiting the Brees Dream Foundation. Held at  Fairbanks Ranch Country Club and the Crosby Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe,  the two-day tourney kicked off with a Bayou Meets the Beach party at  downtown nightclub On Broadway. Pro ball players–turned–golfers included  Dave Binn, Trent Dilfer, Todd Bauman, Zach Wiegert, Reggie Bush, Will  Demps, Phil Nevin, Stephen Alexander and Mike Leach. 
ELEVATED STYLE: Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego  hosted Up, Up and Away! The Sky’s the Limit, a benefit luncheon and runway show at the U.S. Grant hotel that generated upwards of $70,000. Produced by Leonard Simpson, the fashion show featured local firefighters and Girl  Scouts. Sally B. Thornton was honorary event chair; Pam Plotkin and Jacki Unger chaired. 
PERFECT VISION: LEAD San Diego celebrated 25 years and named the recipients of the 2007 Visionary Awards at a reception and presentation at the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina. Ron Kendrick received the Morgan Award; Molly Cartmill was recognized as LEAD graduate of the year. Other honorees included Ernest Rady, Jerri-Ann and Gary Jacobs, Ernest Wright, Richard Ledford, Tori and Mark Baird and Hector Lutteroth Camou. 
ANGELIC AGENDAS: The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary of San Diego County hosted the 42nd annual Women of Dedication luncheon at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Emceed by KUSI anchor Sandra Maas and Andrea Naversen, “Angels Among Us” recognized Lisa Barkett, Sally Bixler, Karen Glasoe Bowden, Elizabeth Copley, Sandra Silva Fichter, Barbara Fischbein, Nancie Geller, Kathryn Hattox, Carol Jensen, Sheila Lipinsky, Mary Zorn Meissner, Juel Ann Moore, Jeannie Dale Ranglas, Yvonne Lindroth Silva and Ellen Stotmeister. 
PEACE, PEOPLE: The National Conflict Resolution Center staged the 2007 Peacemaker Awards dinner and ceremony, which “recognizes individuals and organizations for creative and effective collaborations and solutions to crises and conflict in 2006,” at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. Cecil Lytle was honorary chair; Laura Walcher was chair. Mayor Jerry Sanders presented the National Peacemaker award to the cross-border team that lobbied to have the islands in the Sea of Cortés designated a United Nations World Heritage Site. Tonia Sargent and the Catfish Club received separate San Diego Peacemaker awards. 
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS: San Diego’s top chefs joined forces for the “Taste of the Nation” culinary benefit at Loews Coronado Bay Resort. Proceeds from the 20th annual fund-raiser support Share Our Strength’s fight to end childhood hunger locally and across the country. In addition to food and wine tastings, the event featured an “iron chef” competition with Patrick Heymann of Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Brian Malarkey of Oceanaire, Larry Abrams of Bar West, Laurel’s Brian O’Connor and Red Pearl Kitchen’s Jason Marcus (the winner). 
A GRATIFYING LUNCH: The Women’s Auxiliary of Seacrest Village Retirement Communities honored Jo Arenson during its 19th annual fashion show and luncheon at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. Joyce Glazer served as honorary chair; NBC 7/39 president and general manager Phyllis Schwartz emceed.
