The San Diego Museum of Art hosted “Gala Wonderland” in celebration of its annual “Art Alive” exhibition, which fuses fine art and flowers. Brenda Marsh-Rebelo and John Rebelo served as 2006 Art Alive honorary chairs; Adrienne Green was the 25th-anniversary honoree. Major supporters included Pam and Jerry Cesak, Lyn and Phil Gildred, Sharon and Joel Labovitz, Ellen and William Whelan, Carlos Malamud and Therese Whitcomb, among others.

A High Note

The 15th annual Scripps Cancer Center Spinoff auction and dinner, “And All That Jazz,” at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine, benefited the center’s Stevens Division, netted a whopping $1.3 million and honored Dr. John Trombold for his commitment to caring for San Diegans with cancer. Jane Fusinato served as chair; honorary committee chairs included Carol and Martin Dickinson, Laura and Michael Kreiss, Judy and Norman Kreiss, Dale and Terry Lingenfelder, Jacqueline and James Rogers and Joan Stevens.

Cause Supreme

The Neighborhood House Association hosted the ’60sinspired “Reach Out, We’ll Be There—A Motown Revue” gala at downtown’s Omni Hotel to celebrate its 92 years serving the community. Chaired by David Bejarano and Curtis Moring Jr., the event was emceed by Magic 92.5 morning radio personalities Jagger and Kristi. Among local business and civil leaders lending backup support were Bob Adkins, Cathy Seward, Wendell French, Patricia Potter, state Assemblyman Juan Vargas and San Diego Councilman Tony Young.

Culinary Tour

Patrons of “Taste the Decade,” a ’40s-theme fund-raiser benefiting the American Lung Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties, sampled gourmet food prepared by some of San Diego’s best chefs at Point Loma’s NTC Promenade. The event, which also featured plenty of local brews, was chaired by Tim Bacino. Committee members included Susan Christopher, Bob Goggin, Jennifer Goman, Thom Hiatt, LuAnn McSwiggen, Craig Nelson and Carolyn Showley.

Homebuilder D.R. Horton showcased styles from San Diego’s hottest home-design boutiques and artists at a fashion show titled “Lifestyles of San Diego Living” at its Fashion Walk condominium homes adjacent to Fashion Valley. Mayor Jerry Sanders received the Father Joe’s Villages National Award at the 23rd annual Children’s Charity Dinner at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Laura Galdorisi accepted the Pierre Toussaint Award on behalf of Qualcomm for its support of St. Vincent de Paul Village and other San Diego charities dedicated to improving the lives of children. Monsignor Francis Pattison received the Bishop Maher Award. Gayle and Steve Francis, Paula and Charles Parisi, Diane Bell, Dr. Suzanne Shaw and Lore and Scott Heath were among attendees.

Fashion Group International of San Diego and Scripps Cancer Center presented the 10th annual Style Awards, “Night of Stars,” at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. In addition to awards presentations to honorees Karen Rowley, Leonard Simpson, Andrea Naverson, Mary Johnson, Regina Kurtz, Joy Sprink and Rachelle Graefen, the program included a designer showcase featuring Trina Turk. North Coast Repertory Theatre celebrated its artists, audiences, volunteers and supporters at its “Comedy Tonight!” gala at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. Sheryl and Harvey White were honorary chairs of the evening, which featured comic entertainment and netted $74,000.
