Patriotic Kicks with Spanish Soles

When Noelia Pahissa moved from Barcelona to San Diego, she brought her love of these traditional Spanish sandals with her. Originally created on the island of Menorca for its workers, Avarcas have since become de rigueur. We love their soft leather and go-with-anything look. Pahissa’s U.S. label, PONS Avarcas, are handmade in Spain. They come in flat and platform styles and a variety of bright summer colors, but these red, white, and blue hues are perfect for July’s patriotic parties. Available locally at Hunt & Gather, Zazen, Elos Shoes, Progress, and Crow Thief.

Make it Fabulous

book launch

Fabulous in La Jolla

La Jolla homeowner Bill Georgis just published a book of his work, called Make it Fabulous. The architect and designer is known for his provocative juxtapositions—a disco ball spinning above a Roman torso, or a powder room with bullet riddled mirror walls. To celebrate the book’s debut, MCASD is hosting a members-only cocktail reception on July 16 in his honor. We think that’s just “fabulous!”

RAISCASEbags clutch

From Cases to Clutches

Local designer Julie Rais of RAISCASEbags has recently started making super-chic clutches of genuine Pendleton wool. This design features a boho fringe border and fits an iPad mini ($115). More styles available at etsy.com.
