Local Licks
Attention locavores: Viva Pops popsicle shop in Normal Heights—ever popular since an appearance on The Cooking Channel’s ice cream truck tour—uses local, all-organic, seasonal ingredients in its gourmet popsicles. This summer, watch for the return of strawberry flavors, made with local berries, and the popular blood orange pop. Other new varieties include Asian pear with ginger and orange, a purple beet flavor with citrus blend, and a cool, tart raspberry-lime. Stop by the bright, colorful Adams Avenue shop or Little Italy Mercato on Saturdays to try one. Pups can get lickin’, too. For a small donation to a local shelter, you’ll get a mini version of the carrot-orange variety that’s perfectly Fido-friendly.
