Very Important Taco: Surf and Turf at Zoe’s Place

The food truck whips up a juicy beef and shrimp combo

By Archana Ram

After 16 years as a chef, Aaron Valenzuela opened the taco truck Zoe’s Place last year and has since amassed a loyal clientele, who book the truck for events and follow him to its rotating locations, including Thorn Street Brewery and Fall Brewing Co., both in North Park. He turns out eight types of tacos, including carne asada, Baja-style shrimp, and a greens-filled veggie option, but it’s the surf and turf that stands out.

Seared pieces of beef are sandwiched between chunks of shrimp and a liberal dose of very spicy onions. It’s balanced with a thick dollop of crema and packaged in a flour tortilla. Get the burrito version if you’re extra hungry, but save room for his piping-hot churros, served with a drizzle of caramel and spoonful of whipped cream.
