The latest addition to the new, hipper Flower Hill Promenade is Boutonné (from the French for button, meaning buttoned up or well-put-together). Started by self-taught designer and native San Diegan Erin Pechtel, 31, the brand offers handcrafted leather totes and accessories in gender-neutral, everyday styles meant to stand the test of time. “I am really drawn to clean design. Each piece is cut and sewn by hand right here in San Diego—some taking hours to make,” Pechtel says. “And all materials are sourced in Southern California.” Bestsellers include the line’s signature Mills tote ($164), Dopp kit ($89–$109), and laptop cases ($119–$124). While Boutonné may have a rugged edge, we’ve decided its designer is cute as a button. 2690 Via de la Valle, Del Mar
