Exhaust Noise

The new year brings excitement to the car world in the form of the San Diego International Auto Show. It runs from December 31 to January 4 at downtown’s Convention Center. Wondering if you should go? Of course you should.

Even if you just bought a car, or can’t afford a new one, the show is a great family outing. Treat it as a teaching tool for yourself and the kids—teach the youngsters all about the history of the industry.

You can sit behind the wheel in almost all the vehicles, and ask as many questions as you’d like—without the fear of finding you’ve been sold a car before you know it. Salespeople on the floor have been instructed not to sell attendees anything.

Will there be concept cars? A few, but the San Diego show hasn’t positioned itself as one that hosts a lot of concepts. There are lots of auto shows around the world, and just so many concept cars to go around.

San Diego’s show involves local high schools and their trade classes, who show off their work. A bonus is the great display provided by the San Diego Automotive Museum, which provides a staff of knowledgeable folks who’ve driven the cars on display and can even repair them.

Get in gear and get to the show.
