Plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Vecchione creates works of art like paintings and sculptures when he’s not restoring the faces of adults and children. He brings the same talents to his job and his hobby: a steady touch, an appreciation for his craft, and a deep knowledge of both balance and beauty. “I take an artistic approach to improving on the structures of the face,” Dr. Vecchione says. “Everybody’s face is individual, and I work to make a difference by bringing out the innate beauty and youth that may be hidden within.”
Vecchione and his staff emphasize excellent performance and honest communication between patient and surgeon. “I sit down with patients and talk about what they’d like to see change, and we’re always clear about what we can accomplish,” he says. “We can do amazing things such as getting rid of unsightly bags, contours, and deformities.”
Many of the newer technologies and procedure in plastic surgery are not time-tested for efficacy. These, of course, are explained in detail so as to not “over promise” potential patients. Patients often ask Dr.Vecchione to relieve frown lines around the mouth, which can make people look depressed, and to help remodel the nose to remove nostril flaring, bumps, or wideness. “They say they don’t want to look sad,” Vecchione says. “They want to look happier, to have their face truly reflect their emotions. There’s so much we can do to help them reach that goal.”
In addition to cosmetic procedures, Dr. Vecchione is well versed in repairing facial injuries such as those from dog bites, fractures, and tissue loss.
Dr. Vecchione previously served as the chief of plastic surgery at Scripps Mercy Hospital, Sharp Memorial Hospital, and Rady Children’s Hospital. He is past president of San Diego Rotary Club 33 and recipient of the “Service Above Self” award from Rotary International. He is also a recipient of the Top Doctor award from San Diego Magazine and past recipient of Children’s Hospital Physician of the Year award.
Dr. Vecchione may be greatly experienced, but he never loses the thrill when a patient is elated by a successful surgery. “We love to help people lead happier lives and let the whole world know how they feel through the smiles on their faces,” he says.
