Take a Backseat

Published:

Remember when Mom and Dad used to fight in the front seat while you sat silently in the back? Torture. But sitting in on someone else’s drama? Tempting. Now the La Jolla Playhouse is hosting the latest installment of Moving Arts’ “Without Walls” series. It’s called The Car Plays: San Diego. And it’s awesome. Cars are lined up in the playhouse parking lot. After you’re ushered into the back of a car, the actors—in the driver’s seat and shotgun—embark on a 10-minute scene full of comedy, drama, tragedy, dramedy, tragicomedy, cometragidramedy, whatever. It’s as up-close and intense as theater gets. After the scene ends, you jump into another car. Dark sunglasses optional. lajollaplayhouse.org
