Celebrating Las Vegas
It’s a city of superlatives—the best hotels, exquisite dining, sensational entertainment, world-class shopping and dazzling real estate offerings. Las Vegas not only personifies luxurious excess; it also continues to expand its reputation of catering to the exclusive tastes of a clientele of connoisseurs.
Vegas. No other American city conjures up such an indelible image. Last year alone, nearly 40 million people experienced it. From sports enthusiasts to middle-class families to the ultra-affluent, they came in droves.
Such a singular odyssey would have astonished Mexican traders who passed through the region in the 1820s and gave the city its name—Spanish for “The Meadows”—thanks to local springs, which transformed it into a veritable oasis. But it wasn’t until the advent of the railroad in 1905 that Las Vegas officially became a city.
