San Diego Ballet Company raises the curtain at Copley Symphony Hall for Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker December 29–30. The company’s 29th annual performance incorporates original choreography by artistic director Javier Velasco and associate director Robin Morgan. There’s a 100-person cast—including dancers recruited from as far as Japan, England, and Kazakhstan—to re-create Clara’s imagination: children’s toys coming to life, fighting evil mice, and waltzing into the Land of Sweets for a sugar plum fairy celebration. It’s tutu perfect for the holidays.
