And according to the industry expert, San Diego’s got the best beach around. Stephen P. Leatherman (aka Dr. Beach) recently published his annual list of America’s Top 10 Beaches, giving Coronado the number one spot. The director of Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research takes a staggering 50 criteria into account, including sand and water quality, tidal range, and even smell. The local 1.5-mile strip of sand earned high praise for its picturesque setting, which extends from the historic Hotel del Coronado up to the Naval Air Station, North Island. According to the doctor, Coronado’s wide stretches and flat terrain make it optimal for water activities like swimming and skim boarding. Us? We love the easy access to the Del’s beachfront bars.
