Yacht

Neil Rabinowitz

Meander is no ordinary yacht. Since her keel was laid in 2004 in Anacortes, Washington, by builder Northern Marine, this 81-foot expedition yacht has been a marvel of interior woodworking and design. From the exterior, Meander looks like a fishing trawler; once aboard, the surprises begin. Yacht designer Scott Cole of Ardeo Design, together with the original owners, Michael and Monica Harrington, created an Arts and Crafts–type custom interior rare in yachting circles. Cole, who has been a nautical interior designer since 1990, says he’s never seen another vessel with such fine bungalow detailing. This is a yacht, but it’s also a rustic lodge. Earlier this year, local businessman and yachting enthusiast Brian Fritz and his wife, Helga, purchased Meander—now berthed in San Diego Bay.

Additional research provided by Neal Esterly, yacht broker with Fraser Yachts (619-225-0588), Shelter Island, which sells and chartersthe dining area luxury yachts. Designer Scott Cole (206-855-9027; ardeodesign.com) is based in Washington.
