Del Mar National Horse Show

DAVE GATLEY

By Anna Goforth

In celebration of its 70th year, the Del Mar National Horse Show will feature at least 3,000 horses and more than $350,000 in prize money. The series, April 16 to May 3, is split into three weeks of events based on the types of riding: Western Week, filled with barrel racing pits and rodeo tricks; Dressage Week, where Olympic and World Champions perform trained dances with the horses; and Hunter/Jumper Week, with high fence courses. Night of the Horse on April 18 includes all-new acts, such as Icelandic horses that can gallop at more than 25 miles per hour and wild Mustangs riding in the front seat of a car. Watch from a VIP box with gourmet bites and wine during the Saturday night shows. Daytime shows are free.
