Owners Michael Kugler and Tommy Moring have taken over the Cardiff Fit space and established Physical Culture 101, to much anticipation—100 members had signed up for the new indie gym before their March opening. The gym is 5,000 square feet inside and 5,000 outside, with equipment on the perimeter—and no TVs. “It’s not a commercial, cookie-cutter gym,” says Kugler. “You can do whatever the hell you want, as long as it’s biomechanically correct.” To wit: On any given day, you might see an Olympic power lifter doing snatches next to a yogi hanging upside down from rings, next to the Torrey Pines High School football team learning calisthenics. 1144 North Coast Highway 101, Leucadia
