Everyday Eats: Shredded Pork Bahn Mi at K Sandwiches

K Sandwiches
Pork Bahn Mi: $2.85

Let's face it, often the three most important parts of the day are breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And that's why here at SanDiegoMagazine.com, we're beefing up our food and restaurant coverage by shining the spotlight on tasty meals under $10. Foie gras and Kobe beef still have a place at our table, but these meals are so reasonably priced, you can eat them every day.

Next time you find yourself in Clairemont and your stomach is letting you know it’s time for lunch, consider a stop at K Sandwiches to fill your stomach without emptying your pockets.

Located right across the street from that national chain offering select $5 foot longs, you’ll find a better deal in K’s 3 dollar Bahn Mi sandwiches. I paid $2.85 for their shredded pork bahn mi. A crispy 10 inch baguette is given a light spread of tangy Vietnamese mayonnaise before being filled with flavorful bbq pork and crunchy carrots and daikon. Large sprigs of cilantro meddle the heat from the sliced jalapenos, so if you want an additional hit of spice make sure to ask for a few packets of sriracha.

A mere $2.85 for a sandwich leaves plenty of cash to explore the rest of K’s menu. There are a variety of spring roll options to choose from which come 2 for $2.50, a sizeable and affordable selection of baked goods, and a specialty drink menu perfect for rounding out any meal (I’d go for a $3 smoothie with bobba). K Sandwiches' large variety and slim prices will appeal to both the foodie and frugal crowds. It’s a great place to grab a flavorful Vietnamese lunch for well under $10.
