Craft Cookbooks
A roundup of San Diego chefs and their cookbooks
In addition to the great chefs, farms, food producers and vintners featured at next weekend's Celebrate the Craft event, two cookbook authors, Jessica Theroux and Marissa Guggiana, will be on hand that day to sign books sold by Warwick's booksellers of La Jolla.
Jessica Theroux's book, Cooking with Italian Grandmothers, features over 100 classic Italian recipes including the favorite dishes of the twelve grandmothers that the author visited in the course of writing this travel diary/cookbook. Ms. Theroux will also be at October 30's Little Italy farmer's market from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., where there will be a book signing and cooking demo with local Italan grandmothers and grandaughters.
Primal C
uts, Marissa Guggiana's profile of fifty of America's best butchers, includes recipes and cooking techniques from Pete Balistreri, Executive Chef of Tender Greens in Point Loma's Liberty Station. (Read his San Diego Magazine interview here.)
Chef Balisteri will be at Sur La Table's Carlsbad store on Tuesday, November 2 at 6:30 p.m. for a special class to demonstrate how he approaches locally-driven, nose-to-tail butchery. He'll show how to break down a whole lamb and offer ideas for the best ways to use each cut of meat. The class also includes a tasting of lamb-centric dishes, from Porchetta-style lamb with melted taleggio cheese to lamb bolognese with house made pappardelle and lamb bacon.
