Beer of the Week: Stone Cherry Chocolate Stout

Chilled and fresh from the bottle, this viscous deep mahogany brew tastes very one-dimensional -- a dimension somewhere between Hershey, Pennsylvania and Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Dark chocolate flavors hit you first, but several minutes of warming time allows the more subtle sweet cherry nuances to register, making this beer, a collaboration between Stone, Tröegs Brewery (out of Pennsylvania) and two San Diego homebrewers—Jason Fields and Kevin Sheppard—so different. But beware, letting it warm up too long brings on a Luden’s cough drop flavor, so drink up.
Beer type: Specialty Fruit Beer (7.3% ABV)
Available at: BevMo and assorted craft beer outlets on July 23rd in limited quantities
Pairing notes: Sip this liquid version of black forest cake with dark chocolate truffles or any chocolate and berry dessert
