Date Idea: Afternoon Tea
Eating and drinking are pretty standard date activities, and always a good time. Besides bars and restaurants, another fun option to enjoy a meal is at afternoon tea. I know you might be thinking this is a Mother's Day-only event, or something strictly for the 65+ crowd, but getting comfy on a cozy couch and enjoying delicious finger sandwiches and gourmet pastries paired with top-quality loose leaf tea is relaxing and fun. Plus, instead of loud music, there's a live harpist, making it a much easier place to have a conversation than at a bar.
One option for afternoon tea is The Westgate Hotel on Second Ave. in downtown San Diego, where you can enjoy your choice of freshly-brewed loose-leaf tea (anything from White Ambrosia to a classic Earl Grey), plus delicate finger food. The tea service includes four courses, starting with an assortment of traditional English tea sandwiches like Black Tiger Shrimp and cucumber with cilantro cream cheese followed by a Fresh-baked scone, seasonal berries topped with whipped cream , and finishing with best part: a three-tiered tray of delicious desserts.
On my visit, the dessert tray included 5 different sweet bites, including French macarons, a pineapple tart topped with strawberries, cheesecake, and biscuits with lemon curd. There's at least two pieces of every dessert, so you'll both get a taste of each one.
Tea is served Friday-Sunday from 2:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. and costs $29 per person. For an extra $5, you can also get a glass of champagne.
